spring tarot outfits
using tarot cards as a creative prompt for stying clothes
I styled some of my clothes inspired by various tarot cards and wanted to share the fruits of this experiment with you.
I always have a lot of fun doing this and even though I might not wear all of these outfits in my every day life…I enjoy investigating my wardrobe and challenging myself to pair things together that I might not normally. A lot of the clothes I’ve made so I included some links to fabric as well as the details of what sewing patterns were used. I also have a YouTube video about this too if you want to watch, it’s linked below!
page of wands
What prompted my desire to make this whole series of tarot outfits was finally completing my page of wands shirt-jacket that I had been working on for what feels like ages. I made the top with a vintage sewing pattern: Mccall’s 2558 and yellow linen that I got secondhand from the resource exchange (here in philly). The hat is an old one I made with sewing pattern: vogue 9207. The shorts are pants by the brand S.U.K, they were my sisters and she passed them down to me and I cut them into long shorts. The shoes were also passed down to me from my sister, they are vintage. And then the straw bag is a vintage one I got of of etsy last year.
knight of wands
Using that page of wands top, I decided to also style it for the knight of wands with a thrifted knit tank top underneath and satin shorts that I made. For the shorts, I used the Lane Pants sewing pattern by Sydney graham and fabric I got from stitch n sew center in NJ a while ago. The shoes are silver Cole Hann shoes I got from thred up and the scarf is vintage & a very old purchase from etsy.
Five of swords
This is a super basic outfit, I was really just looking at the color story and trying to do my best. The tee shirt is one my friend Savanna found at a vintage shop in Philly, the pants are again the lane pant pattern by Sydney graham- for these pants I made a few adjustments- first the fit of the leg was taken in slightly to make them less wide-leg. I also made the waistband 1 inch instead of 2inch and lowered the waistline slightly (about an inch). The fabric for the pants is a cotton sateen from Mood fabrics. The slides are extremely old Zara ( I do not shop there anymore!!!) and the sunglasses are by Corlin. same bag as before from etsy.
knight of pentacles
I wanted a reason to style the grey scrap top I recently made (which is armor inspired) and I thought a few knight cards would be perfect. I have my Holland tee shirt underneath and the skirt is one I made from a Marcy Tilton sewing pattern: V9283. The boots are by vagabond.
knight of cups
Repurposing the grey scrap tee for the knight of cups, I have it styled here with a blue cotton skirt I got off of thred up a while back, shoes from thred up as well as a little beaded bag my sister got me.
4 of cups
I don’t especially adore this outfit but I do appreciate the side by side with the card that inspired it. I’m wearing a thrifted green cotton polo underneath a vintage top I got off of etsy. The skirt is the same one from the previous post, from thredup. I’ve also got my button tote bag that I made last year, and a very old pair of slides, originally from free people.
the magician
For this magician inspired outfit, I’m wearing a vintage white dress I got from a flea market here in Philly with the vintage red top from etsy over it. I’m wearing an orobourus necklace from etsy and purple victorian boots from American duchess.
the empress
For my empress outfit, I’m wearing two floral pieces that I made. First the top is made from old bed sheets with sewing pattern: simplicity 8644 (it’s a dress pattern but I made it as a top) and the skirt is sewing pattern: simplicity 5982. The skirt fabric is a floral linen from mood. The bag is vintage from etsy and the sandals are very old Jeffrey Campbell !
temperance
This outfit starts with my white dress from the flea market and I layered a pair of white cotton pantaloons I made a few years back underneath. I don’t have a sewing pattern for these, I apologize, but I think they were a basic elastic waist pant pattern that I just added a ruffle to the bottom of. They are made from thrifted cotton sheets as far as I recall. I’ve also got my pink sandals, button bag, and vintage red scarf. I like this outfit quite a bit.
7 of pentacles
This one is ok, a little simple because I don’t have anything very orange in my wardrobe. The top is vintage or secondhand but I don’t remember its origins. It might have been something my sister gave me or I might have thrifted it a while back. The loafers are a pair I thrifted from the mens section and the beaded bag was a gift from a friend. Same thredup skirt as previously mentioned.
page of pentacles
For this outfit I have my thrifted polo shirt paired with a pair of shorts I made that are basically the shorts version of the pants from the 7 of swords look. I used the same fabric and sewing pattern but just made them as shorts.
queen of wands
The last outfit I will share with you Is a queen of wands inspired look, I mostly chose this one so that I could include Drucilla in one of the outfits. The dress is originally by the brand meadows (sadly they no longer exist) it is altered a bit in that it is shortened and also embroidered on the sleeves and side. I was using this dress as a base for embroidered flower tutorials that I shared on YouTube and then sort of just stopped making those videos. But I can start that up again if folks are interested in more wildflower tutorials- let me know!

Love all of the outfits and interpretations of the cards. Inspired.
oh and I also loved seeing the grey scrap tee styled as armor!
